Invasive Common Reed (<i>Phragmites australis</i> (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud.): A Serious Ecological Threat to Ladakh Tethys Himalayan Biodiversity in Changing Climate
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ladakh’s cropped and non-cropped areas suffer greatly from weedy invasion under subsistence agricultural system where weeding is not a priority but total crop + weed biomass together contribute to livestock feeding significantly. As agriculture along with rearing major activity of livelihood options, thereby contributing significantly Ladakh economy income generation for supporting resource poor farmers. Amongst various invasive species, the common reed (Phragmites australis) has become serious ecological threat agri-silvi-pastoral biodiversity accelerated its expansion in lands including many wetland salt-affected habitats cold arid region due intermediate plant growth habit C3 - C4 photosynthetic ecotypes. This character makes Phragmites climate-resilient which challenge changing climatic patterns. Simultaneously, it one best fodder substitute available harsh climate. paper deals unique characters potential threats agrobiodiversity Ladakh.

Rhizobacterial communities associated with Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. in a hypersaline pond close to Wuliangsuhai Lake (Inner Mongolia - China) were investigated and compared with the microbial communities in bulk sediments of the same pond. Microbiological analyses have been done by automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA) and partial 16S rRNA gene 454 pyrosequen...
متن کاملEffect of EDTA treatment method on leaching of Pb and Cr by Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. Ex Steudel (common reed)
One of the major problems about the chelant-enhanced phytoextraction is the potential metal leaching associated with chelant application. A glasshouse pot experiment was conducted to investigate phytoextraction efficiency of common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steudel) for Lead and Chromium and to determine EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) enhancement of the mobility and phy...
متن کاملphotosynthetic responses in reed (phragmites australis (cav.) trin. ex steud.) seedlings induced by different salinity-alkalinity and nitrogen levels
many phragmites-dominated wetlands have been markedly salinized and alkalinized in the songnen plain, northeastern china. agricultural wastewater with high nitrogen content has been discharged into these alkalinized-salinized wetlands. to understand the effect of salinity-alkalinity on reed (phragmites australis) seedlings at various nitrogen levels, we examined photosynthesis rate, chlorophyll...
